Ant McPartlin winces in pain as he injures neck during filming with Declan Donnelly

Ant McPartlin is suffering from a sore neck after filming a comical segment with Declan Donnelly.

Things went a tad too far as the Saturday Night Takeaway duo, both 45, got in front of the cameras to act out a jokey scene, ahead of Saturday's instalment of the series, in which Dec can be seen getting Ant in a headlock.

Playful Dec was mindful to act out the gesture but he accidentally pulled Ant's neck too tight - which left his colleague "hurt" after he "cracked something."

The ITV favourites shared with fans what happened in a lighthearted clip shared to their joint Instagram page on Wednesday.

The video begins with Ant and Dec acting out the scene with Ant crouched down as Dec hooks his forearm around his neck.

After wrapping the shot, the pair walk off set and as Dec approaches another camera to film behind-the-scenes content.

Dec cackles, as he asks: “Is that a good evil laugh?”

Ant then walks up to Dec whilst twisting his head from side to side and winces wth a strained expression on his face.

Dec quizzes: “What's that?”

Ant replies: “Somethings gone wrong, I have whiplash!”

Dec then again does his evil laugh, thinking Ant is fine and teasing him before Ant adds: “I am hurt, it hurts!”

"Genuinely?" Dec asks.

Ant nods before Dec turns to the camera again to perform his loud giggle before once again asking Ant if he really is in pain.

Trying to get across that he is not 100 per cent, Ant tells: “Yeah, you cracked something there like, woah.”

Dec then laughs again before the pair smirk.

The video, captioned "Donnelly Chiropractors - We’ll wreck your neck", seemed to make Ant and Dec fans laugh as they took to the comments to share how funny they found the clip.

Some penned: "always cracking me up" and "love it" and several others added strings of laughing face emojis below the offering.

The footage comes after fans of the TV hosts were left heartbroken to find out that Saturday Night Takeaway will be ending soon.

Last week, Stephen Mulhern revealed it was the penultimate episode of the year, with the seventh and final episode airing this Saturday with Mo Gilligan as the special guest announcer.

One viewer tweeted: "Oh don't....my 6 year old just cried... Apparently she is going to ring Ant and Dec every Sarurday night as she will miss them....not sure how she is planning on doing that ... They will be lots of tears next weekend".

Dec was unsure if Ant was being genuine about the injury (Instagram)

"Feels like it's only been on 2 weeks," added another, while a third wrote: "I can’t believe that next week is the final one".

"My 6 year old son is gutted that it’s the last Saturday night takeaway next week.....he would very much like to know, why is it not on all year round??" added a fourth.

* Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway concludes Saturday 3rd April on ITV at 7pm
