'Ant-Man' crawls past $100 million in China

Nov. 03--"Ant-Man" crossed the $100-million mark at the Chinese box office last week, taking the No. 1 spot during a relatively slow moviegoing week.

The Marvel movie pulled in $19.5 million in the seven days ending Sunday, according to data from film industry consulting firm Artisan Gateway. The movie is Marvel's fourth highest-grossing title in China, said Artisan President Rance Pow.

Just behind "Ant-Man" in second place was a remake of a South Korean crime drama, "The Witness," which earned $19.4 million in its first three days in theaters.

Sony Pictures' "Hotel Transylvania 2" -- which arrived in theaters Oct. 27, came in third with $12.3 million.

The mainland comedy "Goodbye Mr. Loser" took the fourth spot. The movie about a middle-aged loser who is transported back in time and can fix his errors has made almost $225 million since its late-September release.

In fifth position for the week was "Meitantei Conan: Goka no Himawari," the latest installment in a Japanese anime series that has earned $12.7 million in China.

In the coming weeks, China will be hit with another huge batch of foreign releases, including "Spectre," the new James Bond film, "The Peanuts Movie" and the next "Hunger Games" installment.
