Ant & Dec react to Phillip Schofield coming out as gay with heartfelt tweet

Ant & Dec are among the many celebrities who have given their support to Phillip Schofield after his public coming out on Friday.

The Geordie duo, as well as being ITV colleagues of Phillip, are great friends with the famous TV host, with their National Television Awards after-parties becoming legendary.

And on Friday, Ant & Dec showed their support for the 57-year-old on Twitter with a post reading: "Huge respect and admiration for our friend @Schofe. Sending love to you P, and to your 3 lovely girls."

It was just hours earlier that Phillip revealed to the world that he was gay in an honest and candid Instagram post which read: "You never know what's going on in someone's seemingly perfect life, what issues they are struggling with, or the state of their wellbeing - and so you won't know what has been consuming me for the last few years. With the strength and support of my wife and daughters, I have been coming to terms with the fact that I am gay."

Other well known faces who have shown their support for Phillip include Robbie Williams, who tweeted: "Love you Phillip Schofield," Emmerdale actor Danny Miller, who posted "Couldn’t be prouder of my pal @Schofe on the huge step he’s taken today. For anyone, it’s intimidating. But being exposed to the nation as a public figure of his level is another world. Here’s to a new life, my friend," and John Barrowman who wrote "So proud of you and your family Phillip. Welcome to your truth and authentic self. The nation loves you for who you because you are."
