Ant & Dec have bagged so many National TV awards over the years they've lost count

Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly have revealed they've lost count of how many TV awards they've won with it being so many.

The Geordie duo were left shocked in a documentary on the 25th anniversary of the National TV Awards as they found out they had taken home 39 awards - including 18 for presenting.

Asked how many they thought they had bagged, Ant replied: "I reckon 30 . . . 31?” But the pair were told it was almost 40.

However it was the best presenter award they had won last year that meant the most to the double act.

Ant gushed: "With all that happened in my personal life I wasn't sure if people would still vote."

The show - which is narrated by Dame Judi Dench - also revealed Graham Norton is the awards most nominated TV personality.

Ant is once again heralded for his partnership with Dec after another successful I'm A Celebrity series.

His redemption started in the new year, where he joined Ant at the auditions for Britain's Got Talent after his drink-drive conviction.

The return of Ant pretty much overshadowed the acts that were trying to impress Simon Cowell and fans of the Geordie duo were delighted when his self-enforced eight month absence from TV screens were ended with the BGT airing from April.

It was a remarkable beginning to his comeback and it was not one that he was taking for granted, especially after Dec had told The Guardian that they had almost split up, describing Ant's behaviour as "indefensible".

Ant said they had to take time to repair their relationship and they talked frankly about how his actions had affected their partnership.

He said: “For the first time in many years, all we talked about were deep things like how we felt, and what the future held, and where we were, and all the chaos that has come along, especially for me."

Ant added: "It’s a testament to us having been around so long and people having grown up with us that they’ve allowed us – well, allowed me – to come back. And they’ve allowed me time to sort myself out, because I don’t think they would have been as forgiving to a lot of other people.”
