Ant and Dec win NTAs best presenter for 19th year in a row and infuriate losing hosts

Ant McPartlin and Dec Donnelly have won the best presenter gong at the National Television Awards for the 19th year running.

The pair swerved the ceremony last year, with Ant having only just returned to work after taking some time off following his rehab stint, but returned to pick up their 19th presenter award.

The Geordie duo, who have taken home the coveted TV Presenter award in every single year since 2001, beat Holly Willoughby, Phillip Schofield, Bradley Walsh and Graham Norton.

The losing presenters all jokingly made an angry expression to the camera after Michelle Visage sarcastically announced the "shock" result.

Graham flapped his arms around, furious Bradley Walsh mouthed something to the camera, Holly had her hands out and Phillip snarled.

Giving his acceptance speech, Ant said: "What a fabulous way to accept an award. Thank you very much."

Ant admitted that they had both thought this may have been the year they finally lost out.

He continued: "On the way in we had our chat about this being the year we don't win. It's been a great run, we're so lucky to do what we do. Then you go and do this again.

"Thank you. We are more grateful and humble as the years go on."

Dec added: "Thank you. It never gets easier here. If anything you feel more and more sick. Thank you to everyone who voted. Hopefully see you next year."

This came after NTAs host David Walliams mocked the Geordie duo's short stature during a hilarious opening stint.

He said: "Over here there's Ant and Dec, wow. They're on the front row, not because they're important. It's because they've forgotten their booster seats."

David even jokingly called the integrity of the awards into question by joking that Ant and Dec win every time because of "Russian interference".

But they got their own back by pretending to take over presenting duties from David and joking about the "vicious" comments he was getting online.

Throughout the years they've won awards for Pop Idol, Ant & Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway and Ant & Dec's Gameshow Marathon, as well as the shows they regularly still present.

The Britain's Got Talent and I'm A Celebrity presenters even won the award last year when Ant was mostly absent from his presenting roles following his drink-driving conviction.

The Geordie duo skipped last year's awards, but were filmed accepting their award during Britain's Got Talent auditions.

Dec was in tears as Ant admitted that he didn't feel as though he could accept the NTA after missing Saturday Night Takeaway and I'm A Celebrity during his rehab stint.

As Dec wiped away tears, Ant said: "Oh wow, oh wow. Thank you, thank you very much.

"This is a genuine shock, especially this year. I'm shaking here. I want to say thank you to everybody."

Hugging his pal, Ant continued: "I don’t really feel like I can accept this award this year. The one reason why we won the award this year is because of this guy."

Clasping a hand on his shoulder, Dec said: "His hard work, dedication, wit, funniness and being the best mate there is out there."

He added: "I love you man, well done."
