Ant and Dec to NUFC? Duo joke about buying out Mike Ashley after discovering tie to mega-rich cousin

TV stars Ant and Dec have joked about a potential Newcastle United takeover after discovering the latter had a mega-rich cousin.

They both appeared in a new two-part ITV show to trace their family tree, where Dec met his cousin Meg and her husband Greg who live in a huge New York property - complete with tennis courts and swimming pool.

The couple are reportedly even richer than the Geordie duo, reports the Daily Star , who urged the pair to buy out Mike Ashley and take over Newcastle United.

Ant and Dec are big Toon fans and were asked on social media: "See if your cousin fancies buying NUFC."

Ant hit back with a series of laughing emojis, adding: "Yeah go on Dec...ask."

It emerged in the show that Ant and Dec are actually related.

The duo have previously been critical of Newcastle's owner and demanded he sell up following Rafa Benitez's departure this summer.

Sports Direct chief Ashley has been in charge for over a decade but has been criticised for a lack of spending. He insists he remains determined to sell the club.

On Benitez's exit, Ant and Dec tweeted: "Disastrous. Those ‘at the top’ of our great club should be ashamed. The great shame is that they won’t be," they wrote.

"The way they are repeatedly able to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory is astonishing.

"Mike Ashley - get out of OUR club."

Newcastle's recent good form on the pitch continued last week as they beat Bournemouth to climb to 13th in the Premier League.
