Ant and Dec 'save 2020' as they head to Wales in search of I'm A Celebrity's haunted castle

Ant and Dec have been dubbed 'the saviours of 2020' as they headed on a road trip to Wales in search of I'm A Celebrity's new home.

Following lots of speculation as to where the hit show would be based this year, after the coronavirus pandemic put pay to it being in Australia, ITV announced last month I'm A Celebrity's UK base will be Gwrych Castle in Aberegle.

And, while hosts Ant and Dec would have loved for it to be based on their home turf, with the Geordie duo suggesting locations near Newcastle only for them to be knocked back by producers, there are clearly aren't any hard feelings as the lads are getting very excited about the new series.

I'm A Celebrity 2020 is set to get going in November and Ant and Dec have been scoping out their stomping ground on an excursion to Wales.

Dressed as explorers they got fans very excited with a social media post that read: " Quick trip to Wales in search of the #imaceleb castle. If only there was a sign."

The caption was a nod to the fact that the presenting pair were standing right next to a sign carrying the words 'Castell Castle'.

The photo sparked a huge reaction on both their Instagram and Twitter accounts, with one fan declaring "You guys are saving 2020," and another commenting: "not long now!!

North Wales residents were also quick to react with one telling the lads: "I live near the castle in question and residents in our town are very excited to welcome you," and another posting: "GET IN!!!!!!! As Abergele residents we CANNOT WAIT !!!!!"

Gwyrch Castle is said to be haunted The Sun reports that the castle is home to a 'floating woman in white', thought to be Countess of Dundonald, who died in 1924.

Paranormal investigators have also claimed to have recorded voices on numerous occasions, with other ghosts at Gwrych said to be a servant girl who died falling off a horse on the estate and past gamekeepers.

The I'm A Celebrity line-up rumours for this year include everyone from Coronation Street legend Beverley Callard to Love Island's Tommy Fury.

And Ant and Dec's teaser for the new series comes hot on the heels of them causing great excitement with a first look at their SMTV Live reunion with Cat Deeley.
