Ant and Dec savaged by Gogglebox stars over 'dried up' jokes and cringey Gary Barlow skit

Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly found themselves in the firing line of Gogglebox's unimpressed stars amid their Saturday Night Takeaway return.

Gary Barlow's appearance with an odd tune surrounding vegetable instruments also raised eyebrows among the professional sofa watchers.

"When Gary said he wanted an incredible orchestra I thought he said edible," Ant was heard saying, prompting sighs from the Goggleboxers.

Pete Sandiford said: "F***in' hell, the jokes are drying up, aren't they?"

Sister Sophie laughed, before they began watching Gary speak into a microphone as Ant held up a leek.

"We know where this is going, don't we?" Pete asked.

"Er, yeah," Sophie replied.

The Siddiquis seemed baffled as the orchestra appeared to be playing vegetables, exclaiming: "What the hell?!"

Meanwhile Pete looked at his sister with a scowl: "This isn't for real, surely? We've got someone playing a cut-up pepper, a carrot and a butternut squash."

"Sing something we know," Sophie called out.

Pete responded: "Do you know what Gary needs to do here? Relight my Fire because this is s***e."

He added: "I think somebody's going to get fired off the back of this."

"Saturday night's a mystery to me, Mary," Giles remarked sullenly.

During the show, Pete also let slip that he was engaged to girlfriend Paige Yeomans.

The 26-year-old revealed that he would soon be a husband while chatting to little sister Sophie during the first episode of the new series.

Sophie had asked her brother: "Do you feel any different now that you've got engaged?"

"Yeah, I think," he replied. "I feel like an even bigger responsibility. I don't know why. I'm going to have a wife."

"Yes, you're going to have a wife," Sophie pointed out.

And fans were left utterly stunned but flocked to Twitter to congratulate him on the news.

One tweeted: "PETE GOT ENGAGED! Amazing #Gogglebox."

While another commented: "NO WAY PETE IS ENGAGED."

A third wrote: "PETE'S ENGAGED?!!! OMG!! #Gogglebox."

Sophie went onto ask who would be his best man.

"Well it's going to be my best wo-man, isn't it?" Pete responded. "It will be you."

"Correct," Sophie teased with a smile. "Course it will! I'll not be wearing a tux, I'll be wearing my own dress."
