Ant and Dec's touching tribute to 'incredible' Byker Grove creator Adele Rose after her death

Ant and Dec say they will "always be grateful" to Adele Rose after the Byker Grove creator passed away last week.

It was announced on Tuesday that the much celebrated TV writer had died from pneumonia at the age of 86.

Adele was the person who had a huge hand in launching the careers of many household names including Jill Halfpenny, Donna Air and of course Ant and Dec, when Byker Grove made its debut on BBC1 in 1989.

And the duo, better known to millions of young viewers as PJ and Duncan were quick to pay tribute to her. Taking to Twitter, they posted: "We are very sad to hear of the passing of Adele Rose, the creator of #BykerGrove.

"She was an incredible lady and a wonderful writer. We will always be grateful for what she did for us and the North East. Thank you Adele and rest in peace."

Many of Ant and Dec's followers, plenty also avid Byker Grove viewers, offered their condolences. One tweeted: "So sad, Byker Grove such a large part of mine and many others childhood. What a fantastic legacy to leave. RIP," and another posted: "Sorry for your loss she created and left a lifetime legacy."

Donna Air, who played Charlie on Byker Grove in the early 90s, also paid tribute to Adele for giving her "an incredible opportunity" writing: "My thoughts are very much with the loved ones of Adele Rose, the creator of #BykerGrove.

"Her work gave me an incredible opportunity as it did for many many children in the North East, for that I will always be grateful. RIP Adele."

As well as Byker Grove, was best known for being Coronation Street’s most prolific and longest serving writer, as well as being the soap’s only female writer in its early years.
