Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway receives Ofcom complaints about height jokes

Almost a hundred people have complained to Ofcom after Ant joked about TV partner Dec’s height in a sketch on ITV’s Saturday Night Takeaway.

Viewers were also unimpressed with a number of ‘innuendos’ used on the show, The Mirror reports.

In total, 96 viewers registered complaints with the TV regulator about the primetime entertainment show between 16 and 22 March 2021.

The two presenters and TV entertainers have not shied away from joking about the height difference between each other in the past.

A comedy sketch featuring Bear Grylls was one example where Ant poked fun at Dec’s shorter stature.

The short film, called Double Trouble, saw Ant and Dec chase after a hooded man on the March 6 episode.

The mystery man turned out to be Bear, and the presenters, looking terrified, asked if the real-life action man was there to save them.

Ant and Dec asked him: "Have you come to rescue us?"

Bear replied: “No, this thing is way bigger than you."

Ant then cheekily joked as he gestured towards Dec: “Well everything’s bigger than him."

Ant McPartlin is said to be 5ft 9in, while Declan Donnelly is 5ft 5in - enough for the size difference to be a common joke between the pair.

The latest raft of complaints comes weeks after a comment from Gordon Ramsay caused 104 people to get in touch with the TV regulator.

He took part in a game of Read My Lips on the show but his remarks to a guest are said to have prompted annoyed viewers to register their unhappiness.

As the celebrity chef attempted to lip read a woman who was saying "garlic bread", Gordon moaned: "It's the gap in the teeth, I can't understand you.”

Despite the dozens of complaints, Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway is the second highest rating show of the year, just behind The Masked Singer, also an ITV show.

Around eight million people have been watching each episode - it airs at 7pm every Saturday evening.
