Ant and Dec's new BBC TV show Car Showdown cancelled as fans left gutted

Ant and Dec have seen plans for a new TV show axed by bosses at the BBC - before an episode even aired.

The Geordie duo's new show, Street Car Showdown, has reportedly been cancelled by the BBC before an episode ever appeared on our screens.

The North East icons took the TV personality award at last week's Television and Radio Industries Club Awards.

The pair are known for presenting Britain's Got Talent and Saturday Night Takeaway as well as I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here!, all on ITV, but were due to return to the BBC decades after appearing on Newcastle -based Byker Grove.

A TV insider told The Sun “This was a bit of a passion project for Ant and Dec as they’d had an interest in ‘car modders’ since they were youngsters.

“As backers of the show they would also have been returning to the Beeb, more than 30 years after they appeared on BBC One’s Byker Grove and met one another.

"They couldn’t actually appear on the show due to their contractual obligations with ITV 1, but they were the show’s creative consultants.

“But after a pilot was made in 2019 — just after the project was announced — a decision was taken not to progress it into a full series.”

Last week, Ant and Dec were visibly moved as they picked up the Best Presenter accolade for an incredible 20th year in a row at the National Television Awards.

The lads looked shocked as Fred and Andrea Siriex announced them as winners and were still shaken as they took to the winners' podium.
