Ant and Dec play 'mean' prank on Britain's Got Talent judge in Salford

They usually leave it to the acts, but hosts Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly decided to cause some mischief during their Britain's Got Talent presenting duties.

During auditions for the ITV talent show filmed at The Lowry theatre in Salford the award-winning presenting duo took to the stage for a prank.

“Hello Manchester,” Ant shouted down the microphone and Dec added “It is so good to be back here with you all."

"We’re going to bring out our judges in a moment, but we thought we’d have a bit of fun with them tonight."

He then explained: "We’ve picked their walk on music tonight, so we’re just going to change things up for them a bit.”

The cheeky pair then headed over to the control desk and announced the first judge, Amanda Holden, to the stage.

But as she waited for the music to start and to make her entrance, the theme music to sitcom Steptoe and Son played out across the theatre.

Amanda stood looking confused as one audience member commented “Ah, that’s mean!”

With some encouragement from fellow judge Simon Cowell, she walked out in front of the laughing crowd until the duo decided to change the music and started again with a more upbeat song which met with Amanda's approval.

Ant and Dec are reunited (ITV)

Earlier this year Ant and Dec won their 18th National Television Award for Best Presenter despite Ant taking a career break following his arrest for drink driving in March last year.

Ant has now returned to TV after spending most of the past year focusing on his recovery, resulting in Dec hosting the final episodes of Saturday Night Takeaway including a live final in Orlando, Florida alone.
