Ant and Dec pictured in Wales 'searching' for I'm a Celebrity castle as series prepares to kick off

I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! is set to kick off filming in the coming weeks, and its famous hosting duo have been spotted staking out their new temporary home.

The long-running ITV favourite is taking place at Gwrych Castle in Abergele this year, and hosts Ant and Dec have revealed they have been checking out the new location.

The pair tweeted on Wednesday, joking that they were having trouble finding their destination.

While exact dates for filming the new series have yet to be confirmed, it is thought to be in the coming weeks, as the show usually airs in November.

However, with Abergele included among the local lockdown restrictions announced in Conwy, a spanner may have been thrown in the works.

An ITV spokesperson has since responded to the news, telling WalesOnline: "I'm A Celebrity continues to adhere to all relevant guidelines as well as our own strict Covid protocols."

And one insider said: “Corrie was filmed under local lockdowns in Manchester and the Wales one isn’t as strict – so they are ploughing on. The current advice in Conwy is applicable to households and not places of work. At the moment ITV are operating what is essentially a glorified building site....most people are stationed in Wales and there is very little travel for example from London.  All the shops, restaurants and bars are all open in the area - as they are places of work – and the castle is no different. ITV is creating work and paying people.”

The insider added: “Bosses are determined to make it work having moved it from Australia to Wales and will operate according to the rules until they can’t. There is a long way to go until filming starts.”

Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly, who have presented all 19 series of the shows except in 2018, when Holly Willoughby replaced McPartlin, have already revealed their fears of filming the new series in "freezing Wales".

The line-up for this year's series has yet to be confirmed.
