Ant and Dec horrified as Newcastle landmarks 'destroyed' on Saturday Night Takeaway

Ant and Dec were horrified as Newcastle landmarks were 'destroyed' as part of a segment on the Saturday Night Takeaway series finale.

One of the new additions to Takeaway this year, as well as the hilarious game Ring My Bell, has been the show's own sci-fi serial Polter Guys, which sees the presenters honour Ghostbusters, with a storyline that saw Dec sell his soul to the Devil, in turn for Ant and Dec' s TV success to continue.

The mystery series has seen cameos from the likes of Fred from First Dates, Roman Kemp and Jo Brand. The Devil has been played by Rob Delaney and, he had a key role to play in the final episode, which saw Ant and Dec given the threat that the thing the love the most would be destroyed if Dec refused to go to hell.

And that thing just happened to be their hometown Newcastle. They were then told that the person responsible for carrying out the destruction would be something from their own thoughts. Ant quickly shouted at Dec to completely empty his head of any thoughts, but it was too late as the villain of the piece was revealed to be a giant Go Compare man, with Dec admitting he couldn't get the advert icon out of his mind.

The Go Compare man was seen towering above the streets of Newcastle city centre, before knocking Grey's Monument down and wrecking the Tyne Bridge. Ant and Dec's hearts were in their mouths as he threatened to do the same to St James' Park, home of their beloved Newcastle United, before Dec eventually struck a deal.

Ant and Dec weren't the only ones left in a cold sweat. Even though the plot was entirely fictional, Geordie viewers at home could hardly watch. One tweeted: "The go compare man by greys monument! He can’t destroy the Ant and Dec holy land!!!!!!!"

A second responded: "new sentence: go compare man destroys newcastle," with another quipping: "always knew the go compare man was a monster."
