Ant and Dec hint Saturday Night Takeaway could fall victim to coronavirus and viewers are worried

Ant and Dec have hinted that coronavirus may force Saturday Night Takeaway off air to the great upset of fans of the programme.

A day after the hit ITV show's all-singing, all-dancing Florida finale was cancelled because of the rapid spread of Covid-19 it was business as usual for Takeaway back in London when Ant and Dec hosted another packed episode.

The show, which also saw a woman drop the f-bomb live on air, a Newcastle mam win a holiday in Singalong Live and an End of the Show Show performance from JLS, began with Ant having hand sanitiser squirted on his hands before greeting Dec with a foot tap and elbow knock rather than their usual hug or handshake.

And, at the end of the live London broadcast, just as the number of confirmed UK deaths from coronavirus soared to 21, Dec said: "We'll see you next week....hopefully! Stay safe."

Over in America, big TV shows like The View and The Wendy Williams Show have been broadcast without any audiences to try and combat the spread of coronavirus, and there is growing speculation that popular British shows, like Saturday Night Takeaway, could do the same or be postponed, as the Government is tipped to ban mass gatherings.

Fans of the show are concerned what will happen, with one tweeting: "If Saturday Night Takeaway gets cancelled due to the corona virus, I will riot," and another "'We will 'HOPEFULLY' be back here next week'? What do you mean 'hopefully'? Saturday Night Takeaway MUST continue regardless of the Coronavirus!"
