Ant and Dec halt This Morning live on air to spring surprise on Phil and Holly

They say that anything can happen on live TV and it certainly did on Thursday when Ant & Dec halted This Morning for a massive on air surprise.

The Geordie presenting duo, who are of course no strangers to live TV themselves as hosts of the likes of Britain's Got Talent and Saturday Night Takeaway, gatecrashed the studio much to the shock of Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby .

The popular This Morning double act are celebrating their 10th anniversary of being at the helm of the award winning ITV daytime programme together and Ant & Dec first appeared by way of a VT to pass on their best wishes.

But then everyone was stunned when they came charging outside Television Centre to join the show.

I don't believe you're here," Holly exclaimed before the cheeky Geordie lads ripped up here and Phil's scripts to honour the landmark occasion.

Ant said: "You might be wondering why we've gatecrashed," as Dec explained: "We've got a little surprise for you. It was 10 years ago. September 2009.

"A fresh faced Holly Willoughby joined this silver fox on the This Morning sofa for the very fist time.

Ant added: "The stars aligned and a decade on...This Morning without you would be like fish without chips."

Ant & Dec's big surprise was a This is Your Life style segment called This is Your Anniversary.

Phil & Holly were left open mouthed as a number of friends of the show including Gino D'Acampo and Miriam Margolyes sent video messages.

They had thought their 10th anniversary was going to be a much more subdued affair as they were handed a small cake at the start of Thursday's show.
