Ant and Dec forced to explain why they're not social distancing on The One Show

The One Show host Alex Jones was quick to grill guests Ant McPartlin and Dec Donnelly about their closeness on the show on Wednesday.

But it wasn't their bond that came into question, but instead how near they were stood to each other.

Amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic social distancing guidelines remain in place, with people in separate households having to stand apart.

But two households can be in a bubble together and are allowed to defy the strict distance measures.

Ant and Dec were not social distancing from each other at all, but there was a perfectly reasonable explanation.

In fact, the hosts had already explained themselves days earlier on ITV's This Morning to hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield.

Fearing The One Show fans would complain, maybe not having seen the earlier interview, Alex asked the pair to explain again.

Pointing out they were in close proximity, she said: "I tell you what, people will be emailing, they'll be noticing you are very close together.

"Let viewers know what is happening, you are in a bubble aren't you."

It's then that the boys, who will be hosting Britain's Got Talent and I'm A Celebrity 2020 later this year, revealed what was going on.

As well as confirming they were being tested regularly for Covid-19, they revealed why they were allowed to stand beside each other.

Ant said: "We are in a bubble, we are in a bubble."

Dec went on: "We are in a cohort, is what it's called. We get tested every four or five days and our two households have now become a cohort."

The host then moved the show on, ahead of welcoming the boys on to the sofa.

The One Show airs weeknights at 7pm on BBC One.
