Ant and Dec fans say their 'hearts dropped' due to one detail in April Fool's prank

Ant and Dec fans have said their 'hearts dropped' when they read the duo's latest 'announcement'.

The Saturday Night Takeaway stars decided to get in on the April Fool's Day action by revealing some news.

The pair took to Twitter with their announcement but one detail in particular left fans panicking as it sounded like they were about to reveal they had split.

That's because Ant and Dec, who have been pals for decades, started their post: "Some big news for you guys... after 30 long years together we’ve decided a change is needed."

The message then continued: "And so without further ado, we can announce we’ll now be officially known as Dec & Ant.

"It’s only fair on the little guy x."

The post was shared alongside multiple pictures, including a mock-up of what Saturday Night Takeaway would look like with the new arrangements and the pair posing and providing quotes like a deal had been struck.

But fans were not happy.

"This is the least funny you’ve ever been :/// my heart dropped reading the first sentence," one fumed.

Another said: "My heart dropped then!!!! I thought that was a goodbye tweet!! Not something my half asleep mind wants to read when it’s only just awakened!"

"S*** maself reading the first bit," a third added.

A fourth echoed: "When I say I s*** my self I did I thought you were going your separate ways."

"Not gunna lie, this had me for a few minutes," another said.

Another comment read: "you boys actually scared me i thought you was breaking up or something my poor heart...then i realise today is April fools."

But they didn't quite fool everyone, with many fans calling them out almost instantly.

They finally fessed up just before lunchtime writing: "APRIL FOOLS! Did we get you?"
