Ant and Dec fans heartbroken by Saturday Night Takeaway announcement ahead of this week’s show

Fans of Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway were left gutted after a crushing announcement at the end of last week’s show.

The comedy duo has given us quality prime time TV for weeks, despite not having a studio audience or being able to prank guests in their usual ways.

Now the pair has announced that, sadly, this week's show will be the last in the series.

The pair revealed the terrible news at the end of the penultimate show last weekend, which saw Alesha Dixon as guest announcer and McFly taking on the End of the Show Show.

As Birmingham Live reports, at the end of the episode, a voiceover from ITV confirmed the edition this Saturday would be the last of the year.

Ant and Dec have a blockbuster contract with ITV and are also responsible for presenting I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here and Britain's Got Talent.

The duo's Saturday Night Takeaway is one of the channel's most popular shows, though.

And it is fair to say viewers were left deflated after news of the series ending emerged.

One viewer wrote: "How is next week already to final show of the series?"

And a second said: "Feels like it's only been on 2 weeks," another said, with crying emojis.

A third commented: "Oh don't....my 6 year old just cried. Apparently she is going to ring Ant and Dec every Saturday night as she will miss them....not sure how she is planning on doing that. They will be lots of tears next weekend."

And a fourth wrote: "My 6 year old son is gutted that it’s the last Saturday night takeaway next week.....he would very much like to know, why is it not on all year round??"

A fifth moaned: "I can’t believe that next week is the final one" accompanied by crying emojis.

Ant and Dec Saturday Night Takeaway continues to air each Saturday on ITV1 with episodes available via the ITV Hub after they are broadcast.
