Ant and Dec describe Bobby Robson in three words and here's what they said

Ant and Dec played ball in a campaign to encourage people to describe North East football legend Bobby Robson.

The presenter duo paid a short and sweet tribute to the late great Newcastle United manager in a video which saw them sum up their thoughts on Sir Bobby in three words.

The tribute idea was triggered by the play Bobby Robson Saved My Life, written by local author Tom Kelly, which examines the manager's legacy and its impact upon three individuals.

The play, described as "heartwarming, uplifting and inspirational piece" was produced in association with The Customs House in South Shields, where it had its debut, and invited people to upload videos on social media explaining "in just three words, what Sir Bobby Robson meant to you".

The play Bobby Robson Saved My Life will have a run at Tyne Theatre & Opera House in Newcastle this August (Tyne Theatre website)

Among those who joined in the tributes was Sting who recorded a video describing Sir Bobby as “a giant, a gentleman and a Geordie”.

Now, as the play prepares for a two-day run at the Tyne Theatre & Opera House in Newcastle this August, Ant and Dec have also made a video saying how they are looking forward to the play.

In it, Ant then asks Dec to offer the best words to describe Sir Bobby and he replies "unforgettable" and "iconic" then they both say in unison: "legendary".

Bobby Robson Saved My Life will be performed at the Tyne Theatre on August 2, at 7.30pm, then will have two showings on August 3 at 2pm and 7.30pm.

A percentage from each ticket sale for the play is being donated to the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation which strives to find ways to detect and treat cancer.

The former England manager, who was born in County Durham and had played for Fulham, West Bromwich Albion and England, died from the disease in July, 2009 at the age 76, having established his charitable foundation the previous year.

It has since gone on the raise millions and recently announced funding for a ground-breaking bowel cancer research project.

Sir Bobby is also the subject of a documentary, Bobby Robson, More than a Manager,  which is being shown in Newcastle on Monday, July 29 at 6pm as part of the .
