Ant and Dec defend I'm A Celebrity star Beverley Callard over 'fake vegan' claims

I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! presenters Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly have defended Beverley Callard after viewers accused her of being a 'fake vegan'.

The 63-year-old Coronation Street star is currently starring on the ITV show however has been able to swerve eating animal products during the challenges because she is vegan.

During yesterday's show, viewers hit out at Beverley - who has been vegan since March - after it looked like she was tucking into a Scotch egg alongside her camp mates.

The ITV presenters have since revealed that Bev had been given a vegan treat instead.

"She got a vegan one tbf. D #imacelebrity," Declan penned on the duo's joint social media page.

It came after the I'm A Celebrity's Ruthie Henshall and Jordan North successfully completed the Castle Coin challenge and returned to camp with a platter of Scotch eggs.

While some of the camp were a little dismayed that Ruthie and Jordan had picked Scotch eggs over mini eggs, the celebrities then tucked into their snack as they chatted close to the fire pit.

A typical Scotch egg usually consists of a hard boiled egg wrapped in pork sausage meat and then dipped in crumbs.

"The UK watching Bev eating her scotch egg after telling the nation she’s vegan..." wrote on viewer at the time.

Another wrote: "Bev eating a scotch egg after being a vegan since March #ImACeleb."

Beverley left even more viewers confused after she was then pictured eating a Jammie Dodger.

However, the tradition biscuit in fact changed its recipe earlier this year and made the delicious snack dairy-free.

Despite Ant and Dec's defence, it hasn't stopped I'm A Celebrity viewers from keeping a careful eye on everything that Beverley eats during her time in the camp.

At the start of the season, Beverley narrowly avoided eating deer testicles during an eating trial and was instead offered fermented plums, tofu and vomit fruit for the Bushtucker trial.

Vernon Kay and Jordan North - who also faced the trial alongside Beverley - instead had to much on testicles and eyeballs.
