Ant and Dec "confirm" I'm a Celebrity's first 2022 contestant in grand final

As fans of I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here will know, the identity of the contestants each year is kept a closely-guarded secret until mere days before the series starts.

But the show's cheeky presenting duo Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly said they were going to let fans into a "big secret" on the I'm a Celeb grand final on Sunday night.

Hosting the final from inside Gwyrch Castle in North Wales, the presenters said there was good news as they are already planning the 2022 series, fresh from the end of series 21, which crowned Emmerdale's Danny Miller as new King of the Castle.

And, pricking viewers ears up, Dec said that he could let viewers into a "little secret".

Dec said: "Before we bring the curtain down on this year's show, we're already looking ahead, and I can let you into a little secret.

"We've already booked our first celebrity for next year.

"Always something to look forward to."

As viewers held their breath to see who it was that Dec was about to reveal, he silently lifted up a signature I'm A Celebrity t-shirt from under the desk.

On the shirt? The name "BORIS" and the phone number to vote for him emblazoned on.

As laughter went around the studio, Dec cheekily added : "Evening Prime Minister".

It's not the first time the Geordie pals have poked fun at the Prime Minister during this series of I'm a Celebrity, after leaked footage appeared to make reference to a Christmas Party taking place at 10 Downing Street during last year's lockdown.

After Labour leader Keir Starmer even pointed out to Mr Johnson that "Ant and Dec are ahead of the Prime Minister on this," in parliament, the presenters used it as a taunt when talking about how the campmates agreed to not tell David, who was asleep, that they had missed out on getting a letter from home for him.

Ant mocked: "So they decided to cover it up..." and Dec responded "Not a great idea, is it Dec?"

Ant carried on to say: "If we have learnt anything in the past 24 hours, you can't cover up things."

Dec said: "It might come back to bite them - one day it will happen.

"The situation was as clear as day. We all watched the video of them getting the question wrong. It was obvious it happened.

"Even Ant and Dec were ahead of the Prime Minister - sorry - Danny Miller - on this occasion."

The pair carried on joking around as Dec said: "Don't worry, we will launch a inquiry - not that it will do anything."
