Ant and Dec break social media hiatus after just a few hours for anniversary tweet

Ant and Dec broke their self-imposed social media hiatus after just a few hours on Saturday.

The Geordie duo took to Twitter on Saturday morning to announce they'd be taking a step back for a month, with the post reading: "We’re both taking a break for a few weeks to spend time with family and friends. Wishing everyone a great month and we’ll see you at the end of August!"

Fans wished the pair well for the past month but then got a shock when a tweet appeared on Ant and Dec 's Twitter just hours later, with Dec taking to the social media platform for a thank you post as he celebrates his fifth wedding anniversary with wife Ali Astall.

He wrote: "PS. Thanks for all the anniversary wishes for me and Mrs D. 5 years today."

It was in July 2015 that Dec and Ali tied the knot at St Michael's Roman Catholic Church in Elswick, close to where Dec was born. Celebrities including Holly Willoughby, Phillip Schofield and Ferne Cotton all headed to Tyneside for the ceremony and reception at Matfen Hall.

One fan reacted to Dec's tweet by commenting: "5 years !!! Blimey that's gone quick. Congratulations!!! Have a lovely day," and another posted: "5 years already! Huge congratulations!

Picking up on the timing of the tweet, another joked: "I knew you wouldn't be able to stay off Twitter Donnelly! Your phone is never out of your hand!"
