ITV presenters Ant McPartlin and Dec Donnelly were forced to host Saturday Night Takeaway without an audience amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Advice from the government to avoid unnecessary travel and social contact with others meant that the ITV show was forced to scrap the audience for the very first time.
Despite the setback, the presenters carried on with the live show as normal, and managed to break their own record.
Figures revealed that the show reeled in an average 9.5 million fans, and peaked at 11.1 million, breaking the show's record and becoming the largest overnight draw on any channel so far this year.
Taking to Twitter after the show, the presenters thanked their loyal fans for their support.
They wrote: "Wow! Overwhelmed by your lovely messages tonight. It was a privilege to be on air this evening. Stay safe everyone. Much love to you all."
ITV have made the decision to axe the audience from the show for the remainder of the series.
Ahead of the show on Saturday, Ant said: "We wanted to do the show just to put a smile on people's faces. We might not be able to do another one, we don't know.
"We just want to get on air, have some fun, and hope that you'll all enjoy it too."
Dec added: "For as long as we are allowed, for as long as we are able, we will try and bring you a show and try to put a smile on your face."
Saturday Night Takeaway continues on ITV at 7pm on Saturday March 28.
