Ant and Dec admit Saturday Night Takeaway didn't go as planned as series ends

Ant and Dec have admitted that the new series of Saturday Night Takeaway didn't go as planned as they presented the finale from their living rooms.

The Geordie duo have seen their hit show scaled down dramatically in recent weeks because of the COVID-19 outbreak and the first casualty was Takeaway's planned all singing, all dancing grand finale in Florida.

The plan was for Ant & Dec to host the last show of the new series live from Disney World's Magic Kingdom in Orlando, just like they did three years ago, but ITV bosses pulled the plug as coronavirus spread across the world and the famous theme park was closed.

And then Ant and Dec were forced to host a live show with no audience for the first time in Takeaway history as the Government banned massed gatherings and urged people to social distance.

For the past two shows, including Saturday's final episode, the lads have presented highlights from the Saturday Night Takeaway archives from their living rooms.

And after signing off from the finale, Dec took to their official Twitter account to post: "That’s a wrap on #SaturdayNightTakeway 2020. Not the series we’d planned or wanted to bring you but, as we said, it’s been a privilege to be in your living rooms every Saturday.

!Stay home, stay safe and let’s look forward to better times. "
