Barcelona forward Ansu Fati became the youngest player to score an international goal for Spain as La Roja thrashed Ukraine 4-0 in a one-sided Uefa Nations League clash in Madrid on Sunday night.
The 17-year-old won a penalty inside two minutes following a spectacular run down the left and captain Sergio Ramos converted from the spot.
Ramos then added another to take his Spain tally to 23 as he headed home from a free-kick after 29 minutes and Fati, on his full debut with La Roja, opened his account in spectacular style shortly afterwards.
Fati controlled the ball on the edge of the box and curled an unstoppable drive in off the post to become Spain’s youngest-ever scorer at the age of 17 years and 311 days.
Prior to his goal, Fati had also come close with a run and shot from the left side and the teenager finished the match in the centre-forward role as coach Luis Enrique rang the changes in the second half.
Centre-back Eric Garcia, a transfer target for Barcelona, made his debut from the bench in the second half and his Manchester City team-mate Ferran Torres came off the bench to curl home a fourth goal on only his second appearance for La Roja.
Ferran, who joined City from Valencia earlier this summer, hit a precise finish as he dispatched a low shot into the corner with six minutes left.
The 20-year-old had made his debut in the 1-1 draw against Germany last Thursday and Spain are now clear with four points in League A Group 4, with Ukraine on three and Joachim Low’s side on two after a 1-1 draw with Switzerland in Basel on Sunday.
