Ansah scheduled to visit Buffalo, then New Orleans

Former Detroit Lions franchise player Ezekiel Ansah is now officially a free agent and is scheduled to visit the Buffalo Bills, then the New Orleans Saints, according to a report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Ansah had occupied the Lions right defensive end position since he was drafted in 2013, but injuries have taken their toll over the past three years and his relationship with the Lions appeared to have run its course.

When on the field, Ansah’s production was solid, often flashing his top-tier EDGE skill set, but he was unavailable so frequently that he never lived up to his top-tier contract.

There was little debate over if Ansah would return to Detroit for the seventh year, and that chatter was put to rest when the Lions signed DE Trey Flowers to 5-year deal, worth a reported $90 million.

With Ansah’s injury history, he wasn’t likely to receive an offer until teams could perform a physical examination of his multiple career injuries. With the start of the new league year, Ansah is now permitted to visit other teams and begin his search for a new organization.

The Bills will get the first opportunity to try to come to an agreement with Ansah, but if not, the Saints will be next in line.
