Anrich Nortje moves up in ICC rankings after T20 World Cup heroics

NEW DELHI: South African pacer Anrich Nortje made a significant climb in the recently released ICC Men's T20I Bowling Rankings, following his outstanding performance against Sri Lanka in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024.

Nortje showcased his brilliance against Sri Lanka, recording figures of 4/7 in his four overs during the match. This impressive display contributed to South Africa's commanding six-wicket victory over Sri Lanka in New York. As a result of his stellar performance, Nortje soared nine places in the Men's T20I Bowling Rankings.

Presently, Nortje holds the second-highest position among pace bowlers in the rankings, with Australia's Josh Hazlewood occupying the fifth spot. Adil Rashid of England leads the rankings, followed by Wanindu Hasaranga and Axar Patel.

Afghanistan's Fazalhaq Farooqi, a medium-pacer, climbed to the 10th position in the Bowling Rankings after delivering an exceptional performance against Uganda at the Providence Stadium in Guyana. In contrast, Tabraiz Shamsi and Reece Topley dropped out of the top 10.

In the Men's T20I Batting Rankings, Afghan openers Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran experienced notable advancements following their remarkable partnership of 154 runs against Uganda in the T20 World Cup 2024.

Both Gurbaz and Zadran moved up four places in the rankings after their stellar performance. Gurbaz, aged 20, entered the top 20, while Zadran secured the 24th position.

Despite these changes, the top 10 batters remain unchanged, with Suryakumar Yadav, Phil Salt of England, and Pakistan's Mohammad Rizwan leading the rankings.

In the All-Rounder Rankings, Bangladesh's Shakib Al Hasan benefited from Wanindu Hasaranga's underwhelming performance against South Africa, surpassing him to claim the top spot.
