Another Wirral resident tests positive for coronavirus

Another Wirral resident has tested positive for coronavirus - taking the total number of people infected in the Peninsular to five.

Wirral Public Health this afternoon confirmed that the new case relates to a person who recently returned from a trip to Italy.

The case is not related to the previous cases announced in Wirral.

Julie Webster, Director of Public Health for Wirral Council said: “Today we have been made aware of another positive COVID-19 case in the borough.

“I’d like to reassure people that Wirral Council continues to work with health colleagues to do everything we can to stop the virus spreading and ensure our borough is protected.”

According to the Public Health England website there have been no further positive coronavirus cases in Liverpool today, meaning the total remains at eight.

In Sefton there remains just one confirmed case - with St Helens today revealing its first case.

At this stage there are not thought to be any confirmed diagnoses of coronavirus in the boroughs of Knowsley or Halton.

The latest update shows Warrington remaining on one.

Speaking about precautions, Ms Webster added: "Julie Webster said: “Good hygiene is the best prevention and there are some simple steps you can take to protect you and your family by washing your hands regularly and thoroughly and if you cough, cover your mouth and nose with a tissue.

“If you have any of the symptoms of the virus, you do not need to call 111 to self-isolate.

“There’s lots of advice on how best to do this via the PHE website.”
