Another US media owner unhappy with newsprint

Another traditional US newspaper owner appears to have lost its love for newsprint. EW Scripps, the parent company of 20 daily papers - including Colorado's Rocky Mountain News and the Memphis title, The Commercial Appeal - may separate its newspaper business from its more profitable TV networks, such as the Food Network and HGTV. Scripps's newspaper operations accounted for only 25% of its revenue last year, down from 55% in 2000. Its ceo, Kenneth Lowe, told an investors meeting: "Clearly the most advantageous route is to separate the newspaper business in some fashion." But he said that restrictions in the trust which controls the company "may preclude an outright sale." (Via New York Times)
