Another stat which proves Leeds United are too big for the Championship

Leeds United have ten matches remaining this campaign as they look to end their 16-year Premier League exile.

The Whites have not been in among the big boys since the 2003-04 season and only the most biased fan would claim that the top flight is a better place without them.

As well as having a rich history and hailing from the country's biggest one-club city, Leeds United supporters are some of the most loyal in the country, having stuck with their side through thick and thin and travelling to away ground in huge numbers.

And a look at the average away fan attendances from the Championship proves just how dedicated Whites supporters are.

As you can see in the above table from Twitter user @EFLStats , Leeds fans are head and shoulders above their rivals at the top of the chart, taking an average of 2,966 fans to every away game.

That is almost 400 per match more than second place Sheffield Wednesday, with only three Championship side within a thousand of Leeds' average total.

Huddersfield Town, Leeds visitors have an average of 1,718 fans cheering them on at away grounds, while Championship leaders average  2,068, the third highest in the division.

Derby County and Nottingham Forest average 1,986 and 1,931 fans respectively, around a third less than Marcelo Bielsa's side.

Leeds also easily boast the biggest home attendances, with an average of 35,201 fans at Elland Road every match, more than 7,500 more than Nottingham Forest, who are second on the table.

In fact, this total is more than ten Premier League sides, with the likes of European-place contenders Leicester City, Wolverhampton Wanders and Sheffield United all bringing in fewer punters to their home matches than Leeds United.

Last year the club confirmed that they have tentative plans to increase Elland Road's capacity to 50,000, should they achieve promotion - and from this data, it's easy to see why.
