Another soldier killed in action in cross-border firing in J&K

Another army soldier has been killed in action during cross-border firing by Pakistani forces along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir.

Sepoy M Murali Naik, who was from Puttagundlapalle village of Gorantla mandal in Sri Sathya Sai district, was critically injured in heavy firing on Thursday night in Jammu and efforts to airlift him to New Delhi for treatment were unsuccessful.

Newslaundry had earlier visited the village of Lance Naik Dinesh Kumar Sharma in Haryana’s Palwal, two days after he was killed in Pakistani firing in Poonch.

Naik was the only son of farm workers Mudavath Sriram Naik and Mudavath Jyothi Bai. He was unmarried and belongs to the Lambadi community, categorised as Scheduled Tribes.

As news of his death spread across the region, residents from surrounding hamlets visited the family to offer condolences on Friday. His body is expected to arrive in Kalli Thanda on Saturday morning for cremation.

The district administration is preparing for Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu’s visit to the Sri Sathya Sai district on Friday. The CM is expected to announce ex gratia compensation for the family.

At least 15 have been killed so far in Pakistani shelling amid escalated tensions between the two countries.
