Another six people who tested positive for coronavirus have now died in Greater Manchester's hospitals

Another six people who tested positive for Covid-19 have died in Greater Manchester’s hospitals.

This brings the total number of coronavirus-related deaths in the region to 1,659 - although the true number is likely to be much higher.

One more person has died at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust and one more person has died at Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, NHS figures confirm.

A further four people have also died while in the care of Tameside and Glossop Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust.

The total number of coronavirus deaths at hospital trusts in Greater Manchester is now:

  • Bolton NHS Foundation Trust - 198

  • Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust - 9

  • Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust - 345

  • Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust - 403

  • Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust - 4

  • Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust - 162

  • Stockport NHS Foundation Trust - 171

  • Tameside and Glossop Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust - 139

  • The Christie NHS Foundation Trust - 12

  • Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust - 216

Across the country a further 90 people, who tested positive for the virus have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 24,617.

Patients were aged between 45 and 100 years old.

One of the 90 patients had no known underlying health condition.

Their families have been informed, NHS England says.

The number of deaths involving Covid-19 in the UK has now passed 41,500, according to the latest available data.

Figures published on Friday by the Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency showed that 599 deaths involving Covid-19 had occurred in Northern Ireland up to May 8 (and had been registered up to May 13).

On Wednesday figures from the National Records of Scotland showed that 3,213 deaths involving Covid-19 had been registered in Scotland up to May 10.

While on Tuesday the Office for National Statistics published figures that showed 35,044 deaths involving Covid-19 had occurred in England and Wales up to May 1 (and had been registered up to May 9).

Together these figures mean that so far 38,856 deaths have been registered in the UK where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate, including suspected cases.

A further 2,676 hospital patients in England who had tested positive for Covid-19 died between May 2 and May 15, according to figures published on Saturday by NHS England – which, together with the total figure of 38,856 registered deaths, indicates the overall death toll for the UK has now passed 41,500.
