Another six people who tested positive for coronavirus have died at Greater Manchester's hospitals

A further six people have died in Greater Manchester's hospitals having contracted  coronavirus.

The total number of COVID-19 deaths in our region's hospitals now stands at 1,847, according to the latest NHS data.

In the last 24 hours, another three fatalities were announced at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust.

Another two deaths were recorded at the Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust.

A further person lost their life after contracting COVID-19 at the Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust.

The other eight hospital trusts in Greater Manchester reported no new deaths in their 24 hour data.

    The figures do not include COVID-19 fatalities in the wider community, including care homes.

    The total number of coronavirus deaths at hospital trusts in Greater Manchester, as of May 31 is:

    • Bolton NHS Foundation Trust - 214
    • Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust - 9
    • Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust - 390
    • NHS Nightingale Hospital North West - 3
    • Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust - 465
    • Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust - 6
    • Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust - 166
    • Stockport NHS Foundation Trust - 185
    • Tameside and Glossop Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust - 154
    • The Christie NHS Foundation Trust - 13
    • Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust - 242

    Some of the larger trusts run several hospitals in Greater Manchester.

    Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust oversees the Manchester Royal Infirmary (MRI), Wythenshawe Hospital and Trafford General, while Pennine Acute is in charge of North Manchester General Hospital, Fairfield Hospital, the Royal Oldham Hospital and Rochdale Infirmary.

    On Sunday, NHS England announced 85 new deaths of people who tested positive for COVID-19, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 26,614.

    Across the North West, another 14 more deaths were reported.

    NHS England releases updated figures each day showing the dates of every coronavirus-related deaths in hospitals in England, often including previously uncounted deaths that took place several days or even weeks ago.

    This is because of the time it takes for deaths to be confirmed as testing positive for Covid-19, for post-mortem examinations to be processed and for data from the tests to be validated.

    Figures released on Wednesday show there have been nearly 60,000 excess deaths in the UK since the outbreak began.
