MILWAUKEE _ Offense hasn't been much of a problem for the Milwaukee Brewers through their first two games.
The starting pitching? That's been a different story.
Zach Davies followed up Junior Guerra's injury-shortened opener with a disappointing debut of his own Tuesday. Without his trademark control for much of the night, the right-hander scuffled through a rough 41/3-inning stint as the Brewers lost again to the Colorado Rockies at Miller Park, 6-5.
Davies surrendered nine hits, six runs (earned) and four walks while striking out only one as he labored through a 98-pitch evening.
He allowed four base-runners over the first two innings yet still led, 1-0, heading into the third after Jesus Aguilar's RBI single. His luck ran out there, as Colorado pushed across four runs while sending eight batters to the plate.
Milwaukee got two runs back in the bottom half on a Ryan Braun home run and a Travis Shaw RBI double. But Davies walked Trevor Story with one out in the fifth and gave up a single to Gerardo Parra before giving way to Jhan Marinez.
Through two games, the Brewers have gotten a total of 71/3 innings from their starting pitchers.
An RBI groundout by Shaw and an RBI single by Manny Pina pulled Milwaukee within 6-5 in the sixth. But the Brewers managed only one base-runner over the final three innings against the Colorado bullpen.
A continuing theme in the series has been the performances of ex-Brewers Parra and Mark Reynolds. Parra went 3 for 5 with three RBIs and has five hits overall, while Reynolds went 2 for 4 with an RBI and has four hits _ including a homer _ and four RBI.
