Another Sefton school sends 'around 50 children' home after positive covid cases

A second Sefton school has sent pupils home to self isolate due to suspected coronavirus cases.

Formby High School, on Freshfield Road, confirmed it currently has "about 50" students self-isolating.

The news comes after nearby primary school Trinity St Peter's Primary wrote to parents this weekend to confirm an outbreak of cases, as well as the action being taken.

Coronavirus infection rates in Sefton have risen in recent days to become the highest in the region.

It is thought that much of that increase is due to outbreaks in the Formby area specifically.

Last week Formby Pool, a leisure centre in the area was forced to close over an outbreak of the virus.

The facility, in Elbow Lane, is part-way through a 10-day closure after a number of cases were linked to it.

A spokeswoman for Formby High School said: "We currently have about 50 students self-isolating, including a group self-isolating as close contacts of a positive case in school and others self-isolating due to contact with positive cases outside of school.

"Inevitably, as society opens up more at each stage of the roadmap, there is likely to be an impact in the community."

One dad who spoke to the ECHO said he was concerned to see numbers rising in the Formby area, but praised Formby High School for it's swift actions, saying the school's response to the pandemic has been "outstanding" throughout.
