Another sad day for Dublin pubs as 350-year-old watering hole The Lord Mayors in Swords closes its doors

Revellers said an emotional goodbye to another North Dublin pub after it closed its doors for the last time on Saturday.

The Lord Mayors pub in Swords was the second in the area to go over the weekend after The Swiss Cottage in Santry also closed-up shop.

The 350-year-old pub was packed to the rafters on its last night as locals gave it it's last hoorah.

Sadly, it was lack of business that sealed its demise with owner Robert Savage previously saying it was "no longer sustainable".

As of April, the venue had employed 27 people across its bar, music venue, and off-licence.

The iconic thatched roof pub was known by locals from across North Dublin and is the oldest structure in the village having opened as a watering hole in 1668.

It was famed over the years for its disco bar which was known as a "weekly roulette" to get into even if you had ID.

It's the second spot to close it's doors over the weekend as neaby Santry also said goodbye to The Swiss Cottage.

The spot on Santry Road received planning permission for a €10 million development two years ago.

The site is set to be overhauled into a three story complex with a retail unit, a take-away as well as a two-storey restaurant/cafe and plenty of room for office accommodation.

The popular pub held it's "funeral" over the weekend with everyone turning up in black tie.

Distraught locals posted their tributes for the pub calling it "a sad day".

"Gonna miss this place so much, thanks to all the lovely staff for being the best and thanks for the memories,RIP the Swiss."

Another woman said "I actually feel like a person died"

Work has already started on the new development.
