Another report cites the Celtics’ interest in Tomas Satoransky

After initially being mentioned as a potential free agent target for the Boston Celtics by Keith Smith of Yahoo Sports, NBC Sports Washington’s Chase Hughes doubled-down on the Celtics’ interest in impending restricted free agent Tomas Satoransky.

The Dallas Mavericks, Indiana Pacers and Orlando Magic also reportedly have interest in Satoransky.

A 6-foot-7 combo guard, Satoransky is an intelligent and versatile player who would be an intriguing player in Boston’s second unit. He could feasibly be the Celtics’ backup point guard and after averaging 8.9 points, 5.0 assists and 1.0 steal in 27.1 minutes per game, the 27-year-old has proved he can have solid production in backup minutes.

What makes adding Satoranksy a smart option besides his ability to play point guard — a position that Boston may be thin at in the coming days — and his versatility is his efficiency. He rarely takes a bad shot and that’s led to him shooting at least 48.5 percent from the field and 39.5 percent from three-point range in each of his past two seasons.

Though 27, this is just Satoransky’s third NBA season, as he spent the first seven years of his professional career competing in the Spanish basketball league (Liga ACB).

The Celtics are focused on using all but all of their cap space to sign Kemba Walker to a four-year, $141 million contract if they’re unable to re-sign Kyrie Irving but should Boston somehow strike out on the longtime Charlotte Hornets point guard, then they could turn their attention to lower-tier free agents to fill out their roster.
