Another Premier League club join the race for defender linked with Aston Villa, Nottingham Forest and Bristol City

Burnley have joined the race for Scott McKenna.

The Aberdeen defender was in high demand in the summer, with Bristol City one of a number of clubs interested in signing the centre-back.

City became interested in McKenna when Adam Webster departed for Brighton & Hove Albion, and the Scottish international put in a transfer request to try and force a move to England, with Nottingham Forest and QPR also interested.

Premier League Aston Villa were also keen on the Dons captain, but his transfer request was rejected due to how late it was in the window.

Whilst the Robins subsequently signed Ashley Williams on a free transfer, the Daily Mail report that City are still interested.

However, the report also claims that City - along with Blackburn Rovers and Huddersfield Town - may struggle to match the Dons' £6m valuation of McKenna.

With the Robins prioritising other areas of the pitch to strengthen, it seems unlikely they will solidify their interest with a move for the player in January.

QPR appeared to be the front runners to sign McKenna this month but Burnley have now entered the race.

The Turf Moor outfit face interest in Ben Gibson and have identified McKenna as a potential replacement.
