Another Port player set to miss rest of AFL season

Injured utility Jase Burgoyne is set to be the ninth Port Adelaide player ruled out for the rest of the AFL season.

Burgoyne is suffering a lower leg injury and is expected to join a list including Miles Bergman, Jason Horne-Francis, Esava Ratugolea and Sam Powell-Pepper who won't play again this year.

The 22-year-old Burgoyne, who had been enjoying a breakout year with a career-best average of 19.20 disposals a game, hurt the plantaris muscle in last week's heavy loss in Geelong.

"It will sound a bit silly, it's not that bad, but bad enough that he may not play again this year," Power coach Ken Hinkley told reporters on Wednesday.

Burgoyne, if needing surgery, will be the 19th Power play to go under the knife since January.

But prized recruit Jack Lukosius is tipped to return from his latest injury and play against Fremantle on Saturday night at Adelaide Oval.

Captain Connor Rozee will return from illness alongside Lukosius, who has played only six games in his injury-cruelled first season at Alberton since leaving Gold Coast.

The 122-gamer dislocated a kneecap in his second game, recovered, then hurt his back ahead of an eventual return in round 18.

Lukosius played a four-game stretch but missed last weekend's trip to Geelong with a calf injury.

"It has been a challenge for him, but he's really optimistic around having the final three games and having an impact," Hinkley said.

"His energy, his want to play in the next three or four weeks, has been incredibly high.

"He has had to deal with some disappointment, but what he can control now is the next three weeks."
