Another pet food product recalled in 20 states over thiamine issue

  • Go Raw LLC has expanded a voluntary recall for its Steve’s Real Food Chicken Recipe Freeze Dried pet food due to potentially low levels of thiamine (Vitamin B1), an essential nutrient for neurologic function in both cats and dogs .
  • The expanded recall specifically targets 1.25-pound bags of Steve’s Real Food Chicken Recipe Freeze Dried with lot code C2602, UPC 6-91730-164 02-7, and a Best By Date of January 22, 2028.
  • Thiamine deficiency can cause early symptoms like decreased appetite, vomiting, and weight loss, potentially escalating to severe neurological issues such as wobbly walking, seizures, and weakness, which can be life-threatening, with cats being more susceptible.
  • The affected product was distributed to retail stores across 20 U.S. states, including California, Florida, New York, and Texas, although Go Raw believes the product is no longer available for purchase.
  • While no illnesses have been reported for this specific expanded recall, consumers are advised to immediately stop feeding the recalled food to their pets and return it to the place of purchase for a full refund, issued out of an abundance of caution.
