Another person dies from Covid-19 as 35 more cases of the virus discovered across Bristol area

Another 35 cases of coronavirus have been recorded across the Bristol area, according to the latest figures from Public Health England.

Of the new cases, which were all recorded in the last 24 hours, the highest number was found in Bristol, where 20 positive tests were returned.

South Gloucestershire also found a high number of new cases, with 12 cases recorded in the area.

North Somerset found two new cases, while Bath and North East Somerset only discovered one case of coronavirus in the area.

It brings the total number of coronavirus cases in the county since the start of the pandemic to 63,615.

However, Government figures showed that one more person has died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19. The death occurred in South Gloucestershire, where so far there has been 353 Covid-related deaths.

The additional death means that 1,344 people have died in the Bristol area within 28 days of testing positive for the virus.

The Government said a further 56 people had died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 as of Monday, bringing the UK total to 126,670.

Separate figures published by the UK’s statistics agencies for deaths where Covid-19 has been mentioned on the death certificate, together with additional data on deaths that have occurred in recent days, show there have now been 150,000 deaths involving Covid-19 in the UK.

The Government also said that, as of 9am on Monday, there had been a further 4,040 lab-confirmed cases in the UK.

It brings the total to 4,341,736.

The latest data on deaths

The number of deaths within 28 days of a positive coronavirus test in each area since the pandemic began is recorded below, with any new deaths recorded in brackets.

  • Bath and North East Somerset: 218 (no change)

  • Bristol: 468 (no change)

  • North Somerset: 305 (no change)

  • South Gloucestershire: 353 (increase of one)

The breakdown of new cases

The daily rise in cases for each part of the region is recorded below, with the total figure during the pandemic in brackets:

  • Bath and North East Somerset: +1 (8,167)

  • Bristol: +20 (30,454)

  • North Somerset: +2 (9,958)

  • South Gloucestershire : +12 (15,036)

The infection rate for each area

This is for the rolling seven-day period up to March 30, the most recent for which data is available

  • Bath and North East Somerset: 15.0 cases per 100,000 (down from 20.2)
  • Bristol: 45.8 cases per 100,000 of population (down from 52)
  • North Somerset: 26 cases per 100,000 of population (down from 27.4)
  • South Gloucestershire: 36.8 cases per 100,000 of population (down from 40.7)

How many people have been vaccinated?

Government data up to March 29 shows that of the 34,518,958 jabs given in the UK so far, 30,680,948 were first doses – a rise of 236,119 on the previous day.

Some 3,838,010 were second doses, an increase of 163,744.
