Another Nottingham city centre food and drink business closes down - blaming 'high rents'

Another business in the heart of Nottingham city centre has shut down, blaming "high rents" for the closure. Shakeaway - the world's largest milkshake bar company - ceased trading on Sunday at its prime spot, in Long Row, overlooking Old Market Square.

The store, which had a selection of 180 shake flavours, fruit smoothies and frozen yoghurt desserts, is currently being cleared.

A sign in the window notifies customers: "Unfortunately due to high rents we can no longer to continue to trade. It is therefore with regret that our store is now closed.

"We would like to sincerely thank all of our customers for their patronage and loyalty. We will update the Shakeaway Facebook page when a new store opens and we hope to see you all there.

"We apologise for any inconvenience our closing may cause. Remember... Shakeaway loves you."

Doughnotts, next door to Shakeaway, will also close later this month, but on a more positive note it is moving to bigger premises around the corner in King Street.

The milkshake takeaway - which was part of a chain with shops all over the world - is the third business to close in a fortnight, following Jamie's Italian in Low Pavement and Le Mistral, in Eldon Chambers, off Wheeler Gate.
