Another missing person case linked to Haitian Special Olympics delegation

ORLANDO, Fla. — Another person with ties to the Haitian delegation to the Special Olympics has been reported missing, according to the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office, bringing the number of disappearances to seven.

Louis Jacques Wilguens, 25, was last seen exiting a bus at Disney’s All-Star Sports Resort about 4:30 p.m. Saturday, the agency said. He was supposed to fly back to Haiti on Sunday.

Wilguens was wearing red sandals, blue jeans and a white Special Olympics shirt with Haiti written on it, officials said. Anyone who sees him is asked to check his well-being and contact the Sheriff’s Office at 407-348-2222.

The Sheriff’s Office previously reported six people involved with the Haitian Special Olympics soccer team had gone missing: Antione Joseph Mithon, Nicholson Fontilus, Peter Mianovich Berlus, Anderson Petit-Frere, Steevenson Jacquet and Oriol Jean.

They were last seen June 6 at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.

The agency did not indicate Sunday whether Wilguens’ disappearance is believed to be linked to the other missing person cases.

Special Olympics USA Games told WFTV-Channel 9 five of the adults were not Special Olympics athletes and the sixth is an adult with an intellectual disability.

“Local authorities have indicated they have no reason to believe the health and safety of any of the individuals is at risk,” the organization’s statement to the news outlet said. “To expand the reach and effectiveness of law enforcement’s efforts to locate these individuals, they have been reported as missing persons.”

The Sheriff’s Office has released few details from its investigation but has indicated that foul play is not suspected in the disappearances.
