Another loan departure at Newcastle as goalkeeper heads to the Championship

Freddie Woodman will sign a new contract and leave for Swansea next week, according to sources in South Wales.

The Newcastle goalkeeper had a year left on his deal but will sign an extension before returning to the Liberty Stadium in a move that suits all parties.

The intention will be for him to return for the 2021/22 in more of a position to challenge for the first team. Woodman wants regular football and playing third or even fourth choice was not an option.

At the moment United have Martin Dubravka and Karl Darlow as established first and second choice goalkeepers, with new signing Mark Gillespie hoping to force the issue in the way Rob Elliot - the stopper he replaced - did back when he joined.

England under-21 goalkeeper Woodman is unlikely to unseat Dubravka so a loan works for all parties.

Newcastle have several others who could head out on loan, with loans boss Shola Ameobi tasked with looking for moves for Jack Young, Kell Watts and Elias Sorensen that can either push their careers forward or line them up for permanent moves elsewhere.

Several senior men may also end up departing on loan, which will be a popular tool in the transfer market in the close season.

DeAndre Yedlin and Yoshinori Muto could both head out if the former lands a new deal, while fringe men Henri Saivet, Rolando Aarons, Jacob Murphy, Henri Saivet and Achraf Lazaar are all available.

All of that quintet are out of contract next summer.
