Another jump in coronavirus cases in area near Bristol

Coronavirus cases in North Somerset have seen another jump in numbers compared to Bristol and neighbouring areas.

Throughout this week cases in North Somerset have been rising at a faster pace than in surrounding local authorities, and the latest daily figures released today (Saturday) has shown no sign of slowing down.

Cases now stand at 404, which is 12 more than the previous day.

In comparison, South Gloucestershire and Bath and North East Somerset recorded no new cases for the second day in a row, at 399 and 230 respectively.

Bristol recorded one more case compared to the previous day, with the total confirmed number now reaching 693.

Figures are correct as of 9am this morning, and record the 24-hour period prior to that.

Nationally, a further 2,959 COVID-19 cases have been added to today's figures, bringing the total confirmed in the UK to 257,154.

This only includes lab-confirmed tests and the true number is likely to be much higher, as many people with milder symptoms will self-isolate without getting tested.

A further 282 coronavirus-related deaths have been confirmed within that 24-hour period, with the total number now at 36,675.

Again, this only includes people who have tested positive for the virus.
