Another Irish record seals 200m breaststroke world final for Mona McSharry

Yet another Irish record has earned Mona McSharry a place in the 200m Breaststroke Final at the FINA World Short Course Swimming Championships.

The Sligo swimmer has been in fine form in Abu Dhabi, with her time of 2:21.59 helping her to finish third in her heat and joint seventh overall.

The blazing time is now the seventh new Irish Senior Record she has set at these Championships, in what has been a successful week for the University of Tennessee based star.

McSharry took home bronze in the 100m breaststroke final yesterday, and will take to the start for the 200m decider at 2.41 pm Irish time.

The 21-year-old was pipped for bronze in the 50m breaststroke final on Friday by Hansson, but managed to also smash the Irish record on that outing as she recorded a strong time of 29.59.

It's been a successful week for Ireland, with 17 new national senior records set as well as a silver medal for Ellen Walsh in the 400m individual medley on top of McSharry's bronze.

Tuesday afternoon, the last day of action, also features Daniel Wiffen in the 1500m Freestyle Final and Jack McMillan in the 100m Freestyle Final.
