Another ice warning with freezing rain and chance of snow in the North East

Another weather warning for hazardous ice will be in place just hours after the latest warning ended.

The Met Office has issued another alert about the icy weather as the North East continues to shiver under a cold snap.

Several weather warnings for snow and ice have been in place since the start of 2021, with more snow and frost forecast this week.

The new warning covers the North East and lasts from 4pm on Monday until 11am on Tuesday.

It comes just after the latest ice warning elapsed at 11am on Monday.

The forecaster has warned that the icy stretches are likely to cause difficult travel conditions.

Icy patches are expected to develop, especially on untreated surfaces, with showers feeding in from the east coast leaving surfaces wet.

There is also the chance of some freezing rain, mainly for the North East, overnight into Tuesday.

Further snow is also likely, mostly for hills above 200-300m. Some small accumulations are possible with parts of Scotland and the North East most at risk of seeing snowflakes.

Here 2-5cm of snow is possible in places above 300m and 10cm above 400m, though ice looks likely to be the main hazard according to the warning.
