A human body part - the upper part of a left leg - was found floating in Saen Saep canal on Sunday morning, according to media reports.

Pol Lt Col Supachai Phetchuay, deputy chief investigator of Wang Thong Lang police, said the gruesome discovery was made by residents of Bung Phra Community in the Hua Mak area at about 10.20am on Sunday.

A police team and Por Teck Tung Foundation workers went to the canal to fish the limb out of the water. It was subsequently sent to the Institute of Forensic Medicine for examination.

Pol Lt Col Supachai said it probably belonged to an unidentified man whose torso was found in Saen Saep canal at the end of Soi Ramkhamheng 85/3 in the Hua Mak area of Bang Kapi district on Saturday afternoon.
