The Cincinnati Bengals haven’t been shy about wanting to be active in free agency this offseason.
Director of player personnel Duke Tobin had some interesting quotes about it at the combine. And it has been clear the Bengals are way ahead of the process this year. Even NFL Network expects a big performance from the Bengals on the market.
Now more evidence has emerged from a small comment made by Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com:
“The uncertainty of free agency, which begins in less than two weeks on March 18, is complicated. There’s no CBA in place. But even though no salary cap is set, no tender amounts established and no franchise tags set, I think the Bengals are readying to duel. Too many lights on too late in the night at PBS for me to think otherwise.”
Hobson would know better than most how this offseason compares to the rest. This, despite the CBA uncertainty and paired with other notes about the team’s readiness, make for an interesting time.
As always, the Bengals don’t figure to be invested in the market’s very top names. But if Zac Taylor has sway with the front office, we could see a more aggressive approach in bringing on outsiders to upgrade the roster.
